CASE STUDY: YouTube Short
I was given a script to create a youtube short for the thanksgiving season. The script was an informational video to emphasize the significance that aerospace engineers have in creating the balloons for the Macy’s thanksgiving day parade.
With only a script provided for the project, I was giving free creative domain to build a one minute motion graphics video. I had about 2 weeks to pull together a video to before the holiday season.
The organization had been trying to reach a younger audience and this project was a vehicle to not only a way to speak to that audience but to also entertain as well as educate.
I began by creating after Effects compositions to follow the script. I was given no footage or imagery of past parades to use, so it was necessary to build my composition using getty images.
The task at hand
Eventually I needed a parade balloon to represent in the story. Using Cinema 4D, I built a generic dog balloon.
Cinema 4D had just released some excellent new tools to build the shape using volumetrics, similar to modeling with metaballs.
The Build
Cinema 4D had also released a new tool that simulates balloon effects.
I kept the mood of the story fun and included some quick & easy 2D animation wherever possible, adding some quick motion to vector graphics pulled from getty images.
The Result
The final video can be seen here.
